As of the 2000 Census Montgomery had a population of 10,163 and 52% of residents reported being “very satified” with life in Montgomery in a 2005 community survey. Also according to the 2000 Census, Montgomery residents are 51.7% female, 29.9% age 19 and under with an average age of 42.6. 94.8% of the population is White, 3.7% Asian, 1.9% Black, and .8% Latino. With over 3,700 total housing units available in Montgomery, the average size of a household is 2.75 people with an average household income of $89,224.
Schools in Montgomery are part of the Sycamore School district (my.sycamoreschools.org) which consistently recieves an “Excellent” rating on the Ohio Board fo Education school and district report card. The schools in this area include Symmes Elementary, Blue Ash Elementary, Montgomery Elementary, Maple Dale Elementary, Edwin H. Green Intermedite, Sycamore Junior High and Sycamore High Schools.

Montgomery HistoryFounded in 1795 by six families from Orange County, New York, Montgomery is a historic and well maintained city with antique looking streetlamps and brick walkways throughout the city’s downtown Heritage District. All over Montgomery historic buildings can be found with a total of thirty-two locations designated as Montgomery Landmarks (http://www.montgomeryohio.org/discover/landmarks/landmarks.htm). Eight of these Montgomery Landmarks are also on the National Register of Historic Places including the Blair-Barker House (c. 1875), the Crain-Conklin House (c.1820), the Universalist Church (c.1837), and the Yost Tavern (c.1805).

Montgomery EventsThe city of Montgomery hosts a number of events throughout the year which bring members of the community together, including adult development classes and youth camps. The weekend before Easter, there is an Easter Egg Hunt for children in Montgomery Park. On the first Friday of the warmer month, the city offers Vintage Movies at Weller Park during which older, family friendly movies are shown at dusk in the park at no charge.
In July Montgomery hosts a weekly lunch-time concerts in Swaim Park called “Eat to the Beat”. Also is in July Montgomery has a festive, patriotic Independence Day parade and festival in which residents both participate and come out to cheer along its route. Later in the month, the city celebrates Bastille Day to commemorate the city’s connection to Nieully-Plaisance, France, Montgomery’s Sister City. Bastille Day events include live music, local and French foods, wine tasting, a historic walking tour, art displays, and a kids’ activity areas. The Saturday after the Bastille Day celebration, Montgomery hosts the Tour de Montgomery, a new bike event which features a variety course options. The proceeds of the race benefit the HeartStone Foundation.
In December, downtown Montgomery has carolers, carriage rides and live reindeers for their Holiday in the Villag event. Later in the month the town also puts on Breakfast with Santa for children and families in the area.

Montgomery DiningDining in Montgomery never gets old with the variety of restaurant options. Like fondue? Then you’ll love The Melting Pot (www.meltingpot.com)! Begun in 1975 in Florida, the Melting Pot takes fondue to a whole new level, offering three course meal options with cheese fondue, salad, a meat or vegetable entrée and chocolate fondue dessert. The Montgomery Melting Pot location offers special events such as ladies’ nights and daily promotions such as family night, date night and half off wine night. Whether with a partner, group or a family, the Melting Pot is a fun and different dining experience everyone will enjoy.
Of local significance in the neighborhood is the Montgomery Inn, a locally owned and operated ribs and barbeque restaurant. As the name indicates, the Montgomery Inn began in Montgomery in 1951 by the Gregory family. Famous for their secret recipe barbeque sauce, the Montgomery Inn was named number one independent rib restaurant and number one independent barbeque restaurant in America. The original location is still located in Montgomery and now offers carry-out, catering and bottles of their famous barbeque sauce for individual sale. If you’re new to the Cincinnati area or simply haven’t had quality ribs or barbeque in a while, you must eat at the original Montgomery Inn…in Montgomery of course!

Montgomery ArtsMontgomery is unique to many communities in the Cincinnati area because the city co-sponsors BAM, the Blue Ash/Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, a professional, local orchestra which performs special event concerts year-round throughout the area. BAM is a cultural and artistic treasure for the Montgomery community, offering a chance to hear and interact with classical music for everyone.
When you’re ready to shop in Montgomery be sure to go to the downtown Heritage District where over 120 one of a king shops, services and restaurants can be found. One of these shops is Little Liza Jane’s, a children’s botique which offers fashionable clothing up to size ten for boys and girls, as well as jewerly, gifts and other accessories. Little Liza Jane’s also hosts monthly tea or craft parties as well as occasional private parties for children’s birthdays and other special events.

Recreation and Other Attractions Top

Montgomery AttractionsWhen it comes to recreation, there is more than enough to do in Montgomery. Within the city’s public park system there is over 96 acres of protected green space which includes Weller, Swaim, Pioneer , Pfeiffer, Dulle, and Montgomery Parks as well as the Johnson Nature Preserve. These parks each offer different things to do including tennis, basketball, soccer, sand volleyball and baseball, batting cages, walking trails, horseshoe pits, playgrounds and picnic areas.
Also available in Montgomery is the Municipal Pool, a 232,000 gallon outdoor pool open late May through early September featuring a 30 foot water slide, two diving boards, and a wading pool. Also the Municipal Pool children can receive swim lessons or participate in the Montgomery Makos Swim Team.
