History Top

marie10One of the few planned communities in the United States, the Mariemont was officially incorporated as a Village in 1941, but its history dates back even further. In 1788 settlers first came to the area and experienced many trails and tribulations, including a flood as they tried to tame the land. The settlement thrived and in the 1920′s, Mary Emery bought the land now known as Mariemont to create her “model town” which is the planned community before us today. The Village of Mariemont holds onto its historic roots by governing through a one of a kind, non-partisan system called the Town Meeting which includes a historically dressed Town Crier, one of fourteen in North America. For more information on the history of Mariemont visit the Mariemont Preservation Foundation’s website.
