The highly anticipated 2008 election is completed, and you should take a moment to read about those representing our Cincinnati hills up on Capitol Hill in Washington.

U.S. Representative, District 1 Steve Driehaus


Democrat Steve Driehaus will be serving his first term in the U.S. House of Representatives. District 1 includes parts of Hamilton and Butler Counties.

Driehaus is finishing his fourth term in the Ohio House. He is a member of the leadership of the House Democratic Caucus, serving as Minority Whip since 2005.

The Cincinnati native and Elder High School graduate earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Miami University, and his master’s degree in public affairs from Indiana University. Driehaus served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal, West Africa, from 1988 to 1990. Upon his return from the Peace Corps, Driehaus became Associate Director of the Center for International Education and Development Assistance at Indiana University. He has served on the boards of Seton High School and “Ohio River Way,” and he was named to the Greater Cincinnati Foundation’s Task Force on “Encouraging Community Progress.”

Driehaus and his wife Lucienne live in Cincinnati with their two daughters, Alex and Clare, and their son, Jack.

U.S. Representative, District 2 Jean Schmidt

Republican Jean Schmidt was reelected to serve the 2nd District for another term. She has been serving her district since 2005, which includes parts of Hamilton and Warren Counties, as well as Adams, Brown, Clermont, Pike and Scioto Coutnies.

A lifelong resident of Clermont County, Schmidt is the first woman ever elected to represent Southern Ohio in Congress. The Second Congressional District stretches from downtown Cincinnati to the riverside town of Portsmouth.

In the U.S. House, Schmidt serves on the Committee on Agriculture and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. She served for two terms in the Ohio House of Representatives where the Cincinnati Enquirer described her tenure by saying she
