This Sunday, May 6, will be the 14th annual Flying Pig Marathon. Considered young compared to Cincinnati’s sixth oldest race in America, the Pig had the third largest first-time marathon in the country in 1999. With more than 30,000 participants in last year’s [5K, 10K, half and full marathon] races, this particular event is sure to bring plenty of out of town visitors as well as Greater Cincinnati residents to downtown Cincinnati. Have your voice heard at the public hearing regarding the Brent Spence Bridge. Mark your calendar for a very important meeting for Wednesday, April 25 from 5–8pm at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center. At this meeting there will be discussions of replacing the bridge as well as various design options, which will differ in appearance and overall cost to construct. Replacing the Brent Spence Bridge will greatly impact the economy of Northern Kentucky, including but not limited to its property values and industry. Most of the country is experiencing a heat wave, and days this warm can be a little hard to handle. The most important thing is to stay safe and healthy, and take special care with children, elderly and pets. FEMA provides some simple tips for staying safe in the summer heat: Stay indoors as much as possible and limit exposure to the sun. Stay on the lowest floor, out of the sunshine. Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky celebrated the re-opening of the Roebling Suspension Bridge, a regional icon. Perhaps taken for granted for a while, many residents missed the bridge during its closure. Cincinnati Business Courier has named the winners of their “Best Places to Work” competition. Nearly 200 firms were nominated for this year’s competition, which is in its eighth year. Winners were decided by anonymous employee surveys, and judged on categories such as trust and management effectiveness. Health officials have issued a three-day heat advisory for this week, according to Cincinnati.com, with a smog alert issued for Wednesday. Alerts of this kind are issued when temps or the heat index are expected to surpass 95, putting children, the elderly or people with health conditions at risk for heat-related problems. New Credit Rules Take Effect

You may have been hearing about new credit card rules taking effect. We outlined them in May when the bill was in the process of being passed, but here’s a list of some new requirements (courtesy Federal Reserve): No interest rate increases in the first year. No increase in interest rates on your existing balance, except under certain circumstances. No over-the-limit fees unless you choose this service.
