Many buyers find listings online for homes they’d like their agent to show them. It is in your best interest to drive by these homes prior to scheduling a showing with your real estate agent. In the long run, it is a time-saver, and you will be able to avoid looking at a house you KNOW is a NO as soon as you pull in to the driveway!
Here are some helpful hints of what to be on the lookout for when you are driving by homes for sale:
Is this the type of neighborhood you envision for yourself and your family? Think safety and aesthetics.- Does the home have the curb appeal you are searching for? If not, is it in your budget to update?
- Is the exterior of the home, the landscaping, and the yard up to your standards? Unfortunately, it may not look like the picture!
- What is the parking situation?
- How is the traffic and noise?
- What is the proximity to work, schools, shopping, recreational activities, freeway access, etc?
If a home passes the “Drive-By” test, the next step is to take a look inside. Starting the buying process from the outside-in will help you narrow your search more quickly and make the most of your time with your agent. The time you spend in a house that doesn’t meet the criteria above is time you could be spending at other properties. Time is valuable to you, your agent and the seller.
