One of my favorite signs of summer is the start of the Hyde Park Farmers’ Market near Hyde Park Square. The market kicks off it’s pre-season this Sunday, May 1. The market will be located in the US Bank Parking lot, 3424 Edwards Road, 1/2 block from Hyde Park Square. This year’s hours are 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The market will take place every week through the end of summer. On Sunday, May 15, Bravo’s “Top Chef: The Tour” will be filming at the market. If you purchase a Fannie Mae-owned property in the near future, the group will give you 3.5% back to cover closing costs. To qualify for this program, you must go under contract after April 11, 2011 and close before June 30, 2011. This is a tight timeframe. Fannie Mae can’t guarantee closing in time, but they do recommend going under contract before May 15 to have the hope of closing in time. The home must be one that is owned by Fannie Mae, all of which are listed on HomePath.com. A group of neighborhood parents sure hope so. The Hyde Park Elementary school has been closed since 2005 due to declining enrollment. Since then, the building has been used for relocation of students whose regular buildings are being renovated, including Kilgour and Mount Washington. Mount Washington students will be using the building until 2012, but after that nothing is planned for the school. A group called “Parents for Hyde Park School” are working to reopen the school for Hyde Park once the building is empty again.
