Health officials have issued a three-day heat advisory for this week, according to Cincinnati.com, with a smog alert issued for Wednesday. Alerts of this kind are issued when temps or the heat index are expected to surpass 95, putting children, the elderly or people with health conditions at risk for heat-related problems.

Here are some things you are encouraged to do during this weather:

  • Check on elderly neighbors or family members, especially those with heart or respiratory conditions
  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Stay in cool and shady places, especially with children — be careful in sunny spots like swimming pools
  • If you can’t stay cool inside your home, go to a cooler location
  • Keep pets cool and safe from the heat, and provide plenty of water — outdoor pets should be put in a cooler place like your home or basement
  • For smog alerts, fill your tank or mow your lawn in the early morning or late evening. Better still, don’t drive in the heat of the day if you don’t need to.

The smog alert issued on Wednesday means the ozone levels are unhealthy for people with respiratory problems. Be sure to take care in the extreme summer heat!
