Is your dog driving you crazy? Take him to the dog park!

Cincinnati has many wonderful dog parks, and on a nice day these parks will be filled with other pups for your furry friend to meet. With both private and public dog parks scattered around our area, you’re sure to find one that’s right for you.

If this is your first time visiting a dog park, there is general dog park etiquette. Most dog parks are designed so your dog can be off-leash. (This is very different from a regular park where you must keep your dogs leashed.) Make sure you’re in the special fenced-in area before releasing your dog, and be careful not to let other dogs escape from the fenced area. Be prepared with baggies to clean up after your dog — this is your responsibility. If you bring a toy into the dog park, be aware that other dogs may want to play with this toy, too! Remove the toy if dogs are fighting over it. It’s also best not to bring food or treats.

Don’t bring dogs younger than four months into the dog park, as puppies of this age don’t have enough resistance to germs. Also, make sure your dog has up-to-date vaccinations and a dog license before entering a dog park. Keep your dog at home if he was recently ill, or you suspect he might be ill. Watch your dog at all times and remove him from the park if his behavior is aggressive or very unusual. In the summer months, be aware of the heat and how it affects your dog. And, of course, follow all dog park rules first. Irresponsible owners can jeopardize the park.
