The Home Builders Association of Greater Cincinnati has cancelled this year’s Homearama. We reported in January that the show was on hold, and the HBA announced on Monday that the event was indeed called off.

January’s announcement indicated that it might have difficulty attracting enough builders for the show this year. The HBA says they would like to instead focus on this year’s CitiRama, which is a good fit for the current Real Estate climate.

“The HBA feels that having a high-end traditional Homearama show this year would draw attention away from the important themes of CitiRama 2010, so we decided to make (CitiRama) our signature show for 2010,” said Josh Blatt, president of the association, in a news release.

It’s no secret there is less demand for large, luxury custom-built homes. Last year they decreased their price range from homes around $1 million to homes ranging from $550,000 to $950,000.

CitiRama, which will take place at Rockford Woods in Northside June 3-13, with homes priced from $205,000 to $282,500. The homes are designed for urban living and are either Energy Star or LEED certified.

Northside is an emerging city neighborhood, boasting great restaurants like Melt, Slim’s, Honey and what [I think are] the best burritos and tacos at The Comet. The average home sale price in Northside in 2009 was $68,000, the median was $55,000.  The average home in Northside has 3 bedrooms and 1.75 bathrooms.

In-Line Development Company is the developer for CitiRama 2010 and a number of builders have already purchased lots including Perry Bush Building Group, Greystone Homes, Maronda Homes, John Hueber Homes, Maple Street Homes, M/I Homes of Cincinnati and Potterhill Homes (according to the HBA website.)
