The Ohio Schools Report Card came out on Tuesday, and schools in the area are rated, for the most part, good.
Cincinnati Public retained it’s mid-level ‘continuous improvement’ status for the fifth straight year, although there were some dips in the ratings from last year. (The school system had seen gains last year from previous years.) CPS met six out of 30 indicators, down from nine last year. Each indicator measures a grade’s passing rate on different subjects. The test scores are the only basis for these ratings.
These scores are based on tests given to students last year in grades 3-8 and the Ohio Graduation Test for 10th graders. Some of the guidelines changed from last year, to which some attribute the slight rating losses at CPS.
You can look up your school’s report card by visiting the Ohio Department of Education. On the website, you can search by school or district, and also look back on the last five years of results. There are also some documents that explain some of the tests.
Here are some area schools (as they were listed in the Cincinnati Business Courier) and where they fall into the categories. No area schools fell into the two lowest categories of ‘academic watch’ or ‘academic emergency.’
