After a promising late winter sales extravaganza, the Cincinnati spring housing market is undoing much of the progress made on inventory in the Queen city. Our data goes back to August of 2008, where Hyde Park (zip 45208) holds an inventory just over 190 homes. As of March 1st, inventory was down 31.5% to 130, but now back to about 175 as of today. Similar trends can be seen in Mt. Lookout (zip 45226) and Oakley (zip 45209), although it appears that Oakley has more inventory now than it did back in August. This indicates that prices will continue to slide in the Oakley market. Read about our... [more...]

Consumers should be aware that credit card rules are changing. The bill passed the Senate and House by an overwhelming majority. There are both Senate and House versions. The goal of the new bill to regulate credit cards is to protect consumers. Some say they may have unintended consequences, we’ll have to wait and see what happens after the bill takes effect. There are several important parts to the bill that will effect you. The bill addresses retroactive rate increases, which happens when you get behind on your payments — the credit card company can raise your rate on your balance... [more...]

This weekend, May 23-25, brings Taste of Cincinnati to downtown. Sample some of the area’s best cuisine — all in one place! The Taste of Cincinnati has been around for 30 years, and is the nation’s longest running culinary festival. The event bounced around the city over the years, but was moved to Fifth Street in 2007 to celebrate the renovation of Fountain Square. It’s attended by around 500,000 people. This year more than 40 great restaurants will be featured at Taste. Some of my favorites: Andy Read More →

Cincinnati is ranked in the top five of America’s best bargain cities by Forbes — tied for the 5th spot with Indianapolis. “They looked at factors like the cost of housing, the cost of living. They looked at congestion times, which lends itself to quality of life, and in all those situations, Cincinnati ranked really well,” said Doug Moorman with Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber. “A square foot in Manhattan costs $120, a square foot in Downtown Cincinnati, Class A office space, is $20. Those are the competitive advantages that make us a bargain city to live in,”... [more...]

This is part of the plan, according to an announcement given by Shaun Donovan, U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary. This announcement was given at the National Association of Realtors’ Midyear Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo in Washington. The FHA plans to allow lenders and state and local government agencies to issue short-term bridge loans of the $8000 tax credits for buyers to use for their down-payment. Buyers can then repay the loan after getting their tax refund. Essentially it works like a tax refund advance. “We want to enable FHA consumers to access the tax credit... [more...]
