montgomeryrdMy newest listing is a great example of the historic homes Cincinnati has to offer. It just goes to show you: every home has a story!

This beautiful 87-year-old, 3 bedroom home is in the Pleasant Ridge Neighborhood and has a unique feature — a working elevator from the 1940s!

This home used to belong to a podiatrist who saw patients in his study. The elevator was installed to allow patients with various foot problems travel to the upstairs bathroom without trouble.elevator

The Shepard Elevator Company of Cincinnati, which acquired the Warner Elevator Company (also local, founded in 1890), became the Shepard Warner Elevator Company. They manufactured home elevators until bought by Dover Corp somewhere around 1959. So these in-home elevators are a very unique part of our local manufacturing history!

The home elevator division was eventually acquired by the ThyssenKrupp’s Access Elevator Division, who supposedly still makes a product similar to this home lift.

A beautiful piece of equipment. I hope it’s not to expensive to service and keep running.

I’m at the age that my next place needs to be a flat or have an elevator.

I love it! How fun would it be to have an old elevator like that? Also enjoyed seeing the vintage ad for them.

Not only is the elevator very cool, but the house is really charming. I looked through all the photos and it’s beautiful. Also have to say it’s refreshing to see an agent who knows how to show a house well. I see so many bad mls photos on the Internet! Great job marketing it. Makes me want to move to Pleasant Ridge! :-)
